Gov. Mark Parkinson has issued a proclamation declaring today as “Thank
a Farmer Day” in Kansas. With Thanksgiving approaching, Parkinson
reminded Kansas residents to remember all that farmers and ranchers
provide.

KLA hosted more than 75 state and federal officials yesterday on a tour
of a new system that reduces the level of phosphorus in wastewater.
Officials viewed the system, known as Phred, in operation at a
southwest Kansas feedyard.

A report from the American Meat Institute Foundation (AMIF) indicates
the prevalence of E. coli O157:H7 and infections stemming from the
bacteria have declined dramatically. Since 2000, E. coli incidence in
fresh ground beef products has declined 45% to less than .5%.

KLA member Melvin Schooler has reported 10 cows and calves stolen from
a pasture northeast of Logan in Phillips County . The cattle all are
Angus, with the cows branded dot over lazy S on the left hip.

NCBA is criticizing flawed and inconclusive science in an Environmental
Protection Agency (EPA) review of the National Ambient Air Quality
Standards for Particulate Matter (i.e. dust). The study was done as
part of a required review of the coarse particulate matter standards.
