Cash fed cattle trade was slow in developing this week.Light trade occurred in Nebraska and Iowa/Minnesota on Thursday; but for the most part, trade was delayed until Friday.Live prices were mostly $82 on Friday -- $1 lower than last week.Dressed prices were $131 to $132 -- $1 to $2 lower than last week

Demand for beef at the consumer level for January-May was down 0.9 percent. However, the total demand for beef in the U.S. was probably down more than the 0.9 percent because of weak hotel and restaurant demand.
Demand for pork at the consumer level was up 1.5 percent, for broilers down 5.3 percent

Unfortunately there was not very much positive news this week. Overall, Tuesday’s Planted Acreage report was bearish. Wheat and corn acres were both much higher than expected, which sent the corn limit lower on Tuesday. Corn acreage was reported at just over 87 million acres, which was 2 million over

CBOT Grain Futures Calls:
July corn called 2 lower to 2 higher.
July soybeans called 1 to 4 lower.
July CBOT wheat called 2 to 4 higher.
US dollar is up 23 points at 80.40. August crude is down $.80 at $68.45. Dow futures are up 41 points.

With little positive news regarding price, especially early in the week, very little trade was seen across all cattle feeding regions. Trade was at a standstill in the Southern Plains. Trade was so light that not enough cattle moved to establish a trend, but if one had to be called it would be steady

Cash fed cattle business was slow in developing this week. On Thursday, a few sales in Iowa/Minnesota came in at $81 to $81.50, about $1 lower than the bulk of last week’s sales. Significant business in most regions did not occur until Friday, with prices mostly steady at around $82.

After dropping another $1.50 or so last week, fed cattle were decidedly on the defensive this week.On Tuesday, a big drop in Live Cattle futures made lower cash prices for the week all but certain.In fact, feeders in Nebraska and Iowa/Minnesota went ahead and took their licks on Tuesday.In uncharacteristically

LIVE CATTLE: *Aug*
Live cattle were under pressure throughout most of the day on Friday. Today the Aug LC could find support if they hold the $81.50 area early. Influence from outside markets could help foster an early bounce that could reach back into the $82.30 range.

Cattle were firm this week with most areas averaging $85 live and $136 dressed. In the Southern Plains live cattle were steady. In Nebraska, live prices were steady and dressed prices were steady to $1 higher. Colorado live trade was steady at $85 to $86. In Iowa and Minnesota trade was steady at $85
