Net sales of 9,100 MT were primarily for Mexico (1,800 MT), Japan (1,700 MT), Canada (1,700 MT), South Korea (1,400 MT), Vietnam (1,200 MT), and Taiwan (700 MT). Net sales of 2,900 MT for delivery in 2010 were mainly for Hong Kong (1,800 MT), South Korea (600 MT), Taiwan (400 MT), and the Philippines (100 MT). Exports of 10,600 MT were mainly to Mexico (3,100 MT), Canada (1,700 MT), Japan (1,500 MT), Vietnam (1,500 MT), and South Korea (1,300 MT).

The United States exported 167 million pounds of beef in August, a
24-percent decrease from last year. Total beef exports in August 2008
were particularly high, as it was the first full month that U.S. beef
was able to be exported to South Korea and high demand for beef in
Russia caused a spike in beef exports there.

While access for U.S. beef remains limited in Japan, consumers in the
former No. 1 export market are more ready than anytime in recent years
to chow down on American steaks and beef bowls, according to surveys
conducted by the U.S. Meat Export Federation, contractor for the beef
