Today, the U.S. House of Representative’s Agriculture Committee held a
hearing on agriculture sales to Cuba. Bart Schott, the National Corn
Growers Association first vice president and a grower from Kulm, N.D.,
participated in the commodity panel’s discussion on increasing one-way
exports to Cuba.

The National Cattlemen’s Beef Association (NCBA) applauds Senators Mike
Johanns (R-Neb.) and Blanche Lincoln (D-Ark.) for their resolution
calling on the Obama Administration to insist that Japan immediately
grant increased market access for U.S. beef.

U.S. Ag Secretary Tom Vilsack has appointed 36 individuals to serve on
the Cattlemen’s Beef Promotion and Research Board. The appointments
included KLA members Danny Herrmann of Dodge City and Larry Oltjen from
Robinson.

Yet again, R-CALF USA learned through the rumor mill yesterday that Canada had detected the country’s 18th case of bovine spongiform encephalopathy (BSE) in a 72-month-old Angus cow. Although Canadian officials were purported to have notified the World Organization for Animal Health (OIE) last week, a phone call this morning to OIE revealed that Canada had not yet notified OIE of this latest discovery.
