KFOXTV.com reported on the discovery of dead cattle and carcass parts illegally dumped in the desert west of Anthony, N.M. after receiving a tip from a local viewer.
Dona Ana County livestock inspector Trey Bays observed that several cows had been dumped due to injury or death, unusable remains of beef carcasses were left in bags. They were left in the desert because local dumps won’t accept them.
Bays said it’s difficult to track the cattle back to their owners because the cattle aren’t branded. Even if the owners are traced, the maximum fine for dumping dead livestock is only a misdemeanor fine limited to $100.
