Cattle Ranch Of The Week: Dawson Creek GelbviehDawson Creek Gelbvieh is a family-owned farm located near Easton in the rolling hills of northeastern Kansas. Bob and Karla Beying started Dawson Creek Gelbvieh twenty years ago and, since that time, they have expanded the cattle operation to include their two sons, their spouses, and four grandsons. Tim and his wife, Kris, and their two sons, Logan and Lucas, along with Brian and his wife Julie, and sons, Seth and Cooper all work towards the Dawson Creek goal of building a top-quality Gelbvieh cowherd based on sound fundamentals and strong Gelbvieh females.

Dawson Creek was created in 1988 with the purchase of ten half-blood females. Since that time, the herd has grown to nearly 100 head of registered Gelbvieh and Balancer cows. They run a split calving season and will calve approximately two-thirds of the cows in the spring and one-third inCattle Ranch Of The Week: Dawson Creek Gelbvieh the fall. They believe that the Gelbvieh female is one key to long-lasting success in the beef business. At Dawson Creek, they know the power of the Gebvieh/Balancer female and that she is the basis of their slogan: “Maintaining a solid foundation through sound, functional females.” They believe in “cow families” and focus their efforts on those families who prove to fit their criteria for fertility and maternal ability.
