Cattle Ranch Of The Week: Eagles Run RanchEagles Run Ranch is located in the San Francisco Bay Area of Northern California in an area noted for its wineries and cattle ranching. At Eagles Run, they are committed to continued genetic improvements through the use of Breedplan and selection based on performance so they can provide top-of-the line bloodlines to buyers. Kris and Diana Anderson own and operate Eagles Run Ranch, which currently consists of about 500 acres.

Eagles Run Ranch raises Murray Grey Cattle. The Murray Grey breed celebrated its 100th anniversary in 2005 having originated in Australia's Murray Valley on the New South Wales/Victorian border. The breed has spread from Australia to New Zealand, Asia, North and South America, and Europe.

Cattle Ranch Of The Week: Eagles Run Ranch"Murray Greys have an abundance of the 'easy care' beef profit generators: fertility, milking ability, docility, growth and carcass yield. Meat quality is something that Greys do better than any other breed"

For the herdsman, these cattle are ideal; easy keepers, versatile beef cattle who are superior converters of feed (either grass or grain). A hallmark of the breed is its quiet, docile temperament, making the handling of these cattle - including the bulls - a safe and satisfying experience. We call them Easy Calving, Easy Going.

Eagles Run operates its ranch with a 10 point philosophy:

1. Work hard and give your stock the best care possible
2. Focus on producing healthy calves - that means proper feed and vaccinations for the cow, moderate birthweight bulls, consistent oversight to the calves who can get themselves in a peck of trouble pretty quickly.
3. Treat your customers as you would want to be treated - be honest at all times.
4. Make sure you understand what your customers are looking for so that you provide an animal they will value.Cattle Ranch Of The Week: Eagles Run Ranch
5. Always seek to improve your bloodlines and consider the investment well spent.
6. Make time for 4H/FFA kids - a reasonable price for a steer can make a difference for them.
7. Ensure you are knowledgeable about the breed and can market it effectively.
8. Ensure you know your stock and can speak to the merits of each.
9. Cull any animals that don't meet your performance criteria and focus on continuous improvement
10. Be available to help those getting started with the breed.
