Broiler/Fryer: Daily National Broiler Market at-a-Glance
Trade sentiment was steady to weak in the Midwest, steady to barely
steady elsewhere. Retail demand covered the full range, mostly fair
to moderate approaching the weekend. Food service demand was light
to moderate, best into fast food. Supplies ranged adequate to available
to satisfy current trade needs. Floor stocks were balanced to ample.
In the parts structure, movement was light to moderate for late week
business. Breast items were balanced to long with boneless skinless
in the weakest position. Wings ranged adequate to tight and dark meat
items were mostly sufficient, but legs and leg quarters were long
and slow to clear. In production areas, live supplies were moderate.
Weights were desirable to light.
According to the National Agricultural Statistics Service (NASS)
for the week ending 04-Jul-2009, broiler egg sets were down 4%
and chick placements were down 3% when compared to a year ago.
Based on the preliminary chick placements, the number of fryers
available for marketing during the week ending 15-Aug-2009 is
estimated at 156.6 million head, this compares to 157.0 million
head a week earlier.
