Trade sentiment was steady to barely steady in the West, barely
steady to weak elsewhere. Retail demand was slow to moderate,
mostly fair to moderate approaching the weekend. Food service
demand was light to moderate, best into fast food. Supplies of
all sizes were adequate to fully adequate to satisfy current trade
needs. Floor stocks continued in a full range. In the parts structure,
movement was light to moderate for late week business. Breast items
were balanced to ample with boneless skinless in the weakest position.
Wings were at least adequate and dark meat items were balanced to long
and slow to clear. In production areas, live supplies were moderate.
Weights were mostly desirable.
According to the National Agricultural Statistics Service (NASS)
for the week ending 11-Jul-2009, broiler egg sets were down 5%
and chick placements were down 3% when compared to a year ago.
Based on the preliminary chick placements, the number of fryers
available for marketing during the week ending 22-Aug-2009 is
estimated at 156.0 million head, this compares to 156.6 million
