Broiler/Fryer: Daily National Broiler Market at-a-Glance
Trade sentiment was steady to weak in the Midwest, barely steady to
elsewhere. Retail demand was slow to moderate, mostly light to fair
with slight increase noted into retail centers. Food service was also
light to moderate, best into fast food. Supplies of all sizes were
adequate to ample to satisfy current trade business. Floor stocks
were in a full range. In the parts structure, movement was light and
unaggressive approaching the weekend. Breast items were readily available
to long with bone-in breast in the longest position and often discounted
to help clear. Wings were sufficient and most dark meat items ranged
adequate to available with light movement. In production areas, live
supplies were moderate. Weights were mixed, but mostly desirable.
According to the National Agricultural Statistics Service (NASS)
for the week ending 25-Jul-2009, broiler egg sets were down 4%
and chick placements were down 2% when compared to a year ago.
Based on the preliminary chick placements, the number of fryers
available for marketing during the week ending 05-Sep-2009 is
estimated at 154.2 million head, this compares to 155.1 million
head a week earlier.
