A senior government meteorologist has forecasted El Nino’s weather pattern to bring rain to southern and central Texas, easing this summer’s drought according to Reuters.
Although El Nino isn’t expected until the winter months, Victor Murphy, a meteorologist with the National Weather Survey claims the weather conditions will mitigate drought conditions and potentially cause flooding and flash flooding.
The exceptional drought conditions have affected the agriculture industry in Texas. Texas A&M University’s Texas AgriLife Extension Service reported in July the industry lost $3.6 billion since November 2008.
