Science fiction fans are in for a treat. This year “A Hitch Hikers Guide to the Galaxy” leads off the summer season. The new Star Wars flick is soon to be at every little multi-plexed theater in every town in America. Then, next summer, they’ll get to watch Eric Schlosser’s Fast Food Nation.

Yes, that plotless little book that blamed most of mankind’s ills on the devilishly clever world domination agenda put together in a smoke-filled back room by Ronald McDonald, the King and poor little Wendy is coming to the big screen.

Richard Linklater, a crackerjack “A” list director responsible for classics like “Dazed and Confused,” will assemble a cast of stars no one has ever heard of and start filming this fall.A fitting choice of directors, by the way.If you read the book, you can safely assume Schlosser was dazed and confused when he wrote the best seller.

If Mr. Schlosser wrote it for the money, the fee for the screenplay will go straight to his bank account. If he is truly the noble soul he portrayed himself to be when he appeared on every news show in America as he flogged his book, he’ll use the cash to fund a special interest group to fight all the world’s ills, real and imaginary.
