The North Platte Telegraph reports the Lincoln County, Nebraska Planning Commission will award Beer Creek Ranch a conditional permit to expand its lot by 50 percent.

The feed lot, purchased by Tim and Jon Holzfaster in 2008, is located five miles west of North Platte City. In addition to expanding the feed lot by 50 percent to 5,250; Beer Creek Ranch is building a waste control facility to meet state and federal regulations.

The conditional use permit will go before the Lincoln County Board of Commissioners for final approval. The lawyer representing three neighbors to the ranch said the neighbors will likely appeal the permit if it is approved.

Residential groups surrounding the ranch tried to persuade the Commission to reject the permit. There are six houses within a three-quarter mile radius of the feed lot. Jim Reimers, one of the homeowners in the area is concerned the feed lot expansion will have a negative effect on the neighbors.

"It's going to upset our quality of life," Reimers said. "It's going to decrease our property values."

While Reimers is also concerned with cattle waste contaminating the river nearby. Although direct neighbors complained, other farmers in the community supported the expansion.
