Cattle and calves on feed for the slaughter market in Idaho from feedlots with a capacity of 1,000 or more head on August 1, 2009 totaled 195,000 head, according to the National Agricultural Statistics Service. The cattle on feed inventory was 2 percent below the number on feed July 1, 2009, but up 8 percent from August 1, 2008. Placements of cattle in feedlots in Idaho with a capacity of 1,000 or more head during July totaled 33,000 head, up 4,000 head from July 2008 placements. Marketings of cattle from feedlots with 1,000 head or more during July totaled 37,000 head, down 11,000 head from the same month a year ago. Other disappearance totaled 1,000 during July 2009.
