The cattle industry in Canada wants to form a World Trade Organization settlement panel to end South Korea’s six-year ban on Canadian beef as reported by the CalgaryHerald.com.
The panel has been announced by federal Agriculture Minister Gerry Ritz and the minister of international trade, Stockwell Day in Ottawa. Motiviation for the panel began after sides were unable to reach an agreement with South Korea last May.
South Korea has banned Canadian beef since bovine spongiform encephalopathy (BSE) was discovered in Alberta in May, 2003. Before the ban, South Korea was Canada’s fourth largest beef export market.
