Jumping into the suddenly overheated chicken fracas with every other burger chain in the nation, Burger King announced that their test marketed BK™ Chicken Fries - French fry-shaped strips of premium, all white meat chicken breast - will be a permanent addition to their menu. The strips are coated with seasoned batter and are served in a portable, cup holder-sized container with a built-in well for dipping sauce.
The Chicken Fries six-piece snack or nine-piece meal comes with a choice of five sauces: buffalo, sweet and sour, barbeque, honey mustard, or ranch. According to Burger King, the packaging is designed to fit into a car cup holder for “easy, no-mess multi-tasking on the go.”(Editorial comment: One hand for the Chicken Fries, one for the cell phone and one for the steering wheel?)
"We spent a tremendous amount of time and resources testing this new menu offering, along with its packaging," said Russ Klein, chief global marketing officer, Burger King Corporation. (Another editorial comment: It would have been quicker to check with the beef industry. They came up with a similar idea – beef strips – about 10 years ago)
The good burgermeisters at Burger King also announced that they’re sponsoring the rock band COQ ROQ, a six-man rock group “inspired by the cultural phenomenon of Subservient Chicken and Chicken Fries.”(Yet another editorial comment: Does anyone remember the Monkees?)
Three television commercials, which launch today, will showcase COQ ROQ as part of the Chicken Fries national promotion. COQ ROQ's four new audio tracks include the titles "Cross the Road" and "Bob Your Head" featured in two, full-length videos. COQ ROQ fans (Final editorial comment: Both of them) can listen to tracks, view music videos and download COQ ROQ ringtones at the band's fully interactive Web site, http://www.coqroq.com/.
