Let me reword Wendy’s headline. The Rest of the Country Does Not Understand, but to Many People in the Southeast Chili and Slaw Are Just Grand

Having lived in South Carolina for 25 years, I’ve come to understand the region’s love of a slaw burger. It’s a bizarre culinary habit to most people but folks in the south will whip a handful of slaw on almost anything, even their barbecue. For me, anyway, it’s no big deal when Wendy’s wants to build some regional appeal by offering the Wendy's "Carolina Classic™",a fresh, 1/4-pound burger topped with chili, slaw, onion and mustard (editors note: With roll of Tums on the side?).

Wendy's is currently rolling out the Carolina Classic™ to more than 420 restaurants in the Carolinas and a few locations in western Virginia and Augusta, Georgia.A regional advertising campaign will begin within the next two weeks.

Introduced in 1993, the Carolina Classic(TM) was sold at Wendy's locations in the Carolinas until September 2000.Since that time, many customers have asked for its the return which enjoyed a very loyal following during its heyday.

It's one of only two regional hamburgers Wendy's offers on its menu.A Texas-Double(TM) Cheeseburger is available in selected locations in the Southwest. If sales meet expectations, maybe Wendy’s will look for other regional products.A lutefisk topped burger in Wisconsin? How about a ground pork burger in Iowa?
