The number of cattle on feed on July 1, 2009 in Kansas feedlots with 1,000 head or more capacity totaled 1.92 million head, down 8 percent from a year ago and down 8 percent from June 1, 2009.Placements during June totaled 305,000 head, down 8 percent from a year ago and 12 percent below May 2009 placements of 345,000 head.These are the lowest placements since May 1996. Marketings during June totaled 455,000 head, 6 percent above June 2008 and 7 percent above May 2009.Other disappearance was 10,000 head, unchanged from a year ago but down 10,000 from the previous month.The percent of June placements by weight was: under 600 pounds, 18 percent; 600-699 pounds, 23 percent; 700-799 pounds, 31 percent; and 800 pounds or heavier, 28 percent.
