For the men and women of the U.S. agricultural industry, producing an increasing amount of food to meet growing global demands is just the tip of the ice berg. Beyond simply meeting production demands, the industry must adopt new technologies, adapt to new domestic and international markets, respond to consumers’ questions about agriculture, manage risk, comply with government regulations, and more. This will be no small feat, and the industry will need innovative leaders throughout the production chain to succeed.
For the second consecutive year, Vance Publishing Corporation will recognize 40 industry leaders – from all sectors of agriculture – under the age of 40 who are making a significant contribution to solving the 2050 challenge of feeding the world’s projected 9.1 billion people. We will be accepting nominations for the 2014 40 Under 40 class until July 30, 2014.
In addition to farmers and ranchers, solving the 2050 challenge will require biologists, economists, geneticists, dieticians, lawmakers, veterinarians and more. Specifically, nominees must be involved (owner, co-owner, employee, consultant, student) with a business involved in food production, food processing, food safety, food research, food transportation or a group, organization, association or university that serves those industries.
Individuals must be nominated by a colleague or fellow professional, and nominators must include the following in their nomination packet:
- A one-page letter of reference detailing the applicant’s activities and expertise in their industry segment, and explain why nominee is qualified for recognition;
- Nominee name, address, title, age;
- Nominee’s curriculum vitae or resume;
- A list of organizations with which the nominee is affiliated, industry activities, any awards received; and
- Nominator’s contact information in case the judges need further information or have questions.
Nominations will be reviewed by a panel of industry leaders, and the 2014 award recipients will be recognized in various Vance Publishing Corporation print and online publications, receive a recognition plaque, be invited to an exclusive 40 Under 40 event, and more.
