LINCOLN, Neb., June 19, 2009 -- Nebraska feedlots, with capacities of 1,000 or more head, contained 2.11 million cattle on feed on June 1, according to USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service, Nebraska Field Office. The inventory was down 6 percent from last year.
Placements in feedlots during May totaled 310,000 head, down 16 percent from 2008.
This is the lowest May placement number since 1998.
Marketings of fed cattle during May totaled 450,000 head, down 6 percent from last year.
Other disappearance during May totaled 20,000 head, the same as 2008.
