Nebraska feedlots, with capacities of 1,000 or more head, contained 2.0 million cattle on feed on September 1, according to USDA’s National
Agricultural Statistics Service, Nebraska Field Office. The inventory was up 3 percent from last year. Placements in feedlots during August totaled 460,000 head, up 3 percent from 2008. Marketings of fed cattle during August totaled 350,000 head, down 11 percent from last year. These were the fewest marketed during August since 1997. Other disappearance during August totaled 10,000 head, the same as 2008.
