What may seem like a time-intensive process is now starting to pay off as several of the beef checkoff’s new product concepts, initially developed and tested in 2006 and 2007, are introduced into the marketplace. Amy Foods, Inc. has put into full production the Philly Cheese Steak Roll concept, the first beef product in that company's array of product offerings and a concept developed by the beef checkoff. The product is an eggroll made with whole wheat and filled with seasoned steak, onion, red and green peppers, and cheese. The Philly Cheese Steak Roll recently received authorization at H-E-B stores in Texas and is also sold at the Grand Hotel on Mackinac Island in Michigan. To kick off the new product, this month Amy Foods is holding product demonstrations at approximately 100 Texas H-E-B stores where employees and company influencers will receive $1-off coupons. This is followed by a HEB-hosted buying show where FREE coupons will be distributed to manufacturers as they have the opportunity to sample product…tape

The ratio of dollars invested by industry partners to that of the checkoff is about 4-to-1. All coupon redemption costs are covered by Amy Foods, which is also developing additional flavors to expand its beef presence.
In the past year, the checkoff's Beef Innovations Group has influenced 14 new beef products developed from the chuck and has taken two new products from concept to consumer. Wald comments about how new products help increase beef demand…tape.
