Soldiers from the U. S. Army National Guard spent the week at Cal Ploy Pomona’s beef center learning skills to help Afghani farmers according to sgvtribune.com.
Cal Poly is the first university contracted by the Army to teach the soldiers about cattle vaccinations, identifying and curing diseases, and more. The classes and hands-on experience will enable soldiers to help Afghanistan, a country that depends heavily on agriculture and livestock.
Many of the soldiers are volunteers who have a background in agriculture. 50 soldiers will make the trip overseas to advise farmers on better agricultural practices.
