The Texas and Southwestern Cattle Raisers Association today applauded Gov. Rick Perry's appointments of Commissioner Bryan Shaw as chairman of the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) and Carlos Rubinstein as a new commissioner. Shaw takes over as chairman for Commissioner Buddy Garcia. Rubinstein fills the vacancy left by Commissioner Larry Soward whose term ends Aug. 31, 2009.

"Both Commissioner Shaw and Commissioner Rubinstein understand how important agriculture is to Texas and share our view of the importance of protecting our natural resources," said Dave Scott, TSCRA president and rancher from Richmond, Texas.

"Commissioner Shaw's ranching background and expertise on agricultural air quality continues to be a major asset to Texas.

"In his previous roles at TCEQ, Commissioner Rubinstein has gone to bat for Texas ranchers on numerous occasions, especially in making sure we receive our fair share of water from Mexico along the Rio Grande.

"We look forward to working with Commissioner Shaw and Commissioner Rubinstein in their new positions. We also greatly appreciate the commitment of Buddy Garcia as chairman and will continue to work with him in his important role as commissioner at TCEQ."

Texas and Southwestern Cattle Raisers Association is a 132-year-old trade organization and is the largest livestock association in Texas. TSCRA has more than 15,000 members who manage approximately 4 million head of cattle on 51.5 million acres of range and pasture land, primarily in Texas and Oklahoma.
