Enter Today – The Faces of Farming & Ranching
The U.S. Farmers & Ranchers Alliance (USFRA), funded in part by the beef checkoff, is looking for the “Faces of Farming and Ranching” to help put a real face on agriculture and shine a light on the heart, personalities and values that are behind today’s food. USFRA is kicking off a nationwide search of farmers and ranchers who can serve as the Faces of Farming and Ranching for a number of various national media, influencer and other public-facing opportunities.
USFRA has started a movement to bring more farmers and ranchers together to answer people’s questions about how their food is grown and raised. Many voices are leading conversations about food – and often leaving the people who grow and raise our food out. We need a national face to be part of these conversations and represent the real farmers and ranchers of America.
USFRA is looking to narrow down multiple entries to four to five standout farmers and ranchers who are proud of what they do, eager to share their stories of continuous improvement with others and are actively involved today in sharing those stories. Farmers and ranchers who raise a variety of foods differently, at differing scale and in all areas of the country are encouraged to apply as it is important to show American agriculture and all of its diversity.
Producer Profile: Don Gurtner, Indiana
Cattlemen’s Beef Board (CBB) member Don Gurtner has been a dairyman almost from the first day he donned long pants. “My grandfather had some dairy cows. He had a stroke and couldn’t milk them anymore but he wanted to keep the herd,” he said. So Don’s mother and father took a vote to decide which family member would step in and help. Don won his first election at the tender young age of 14.
