Beef supplies in freezers were up five percent compared to a year earlier in the October Cold Storage report.

The report, with a delayed release due to the government shutdown, shows supplies were also three percent higher than the previous month. Higher beef supplies in freezers contributed to an overall higher red meat supply. The October report shows total red meat supplies were up three percent compared to a month earlier, but four percent lower than a year ago.

Total red meat supplies were brought down by pork supplies that were 10 percent lower than the same month last year.
