Interstate 70 westbound lanes were closed for several hours early Friday morning after a truck hauling 79 cows overturned.

The driver lost control of the truck after hitting a curb east of downtown Kansas City after 3 a.m. according to the Associated Press.

One steer escaped the truck and had to be corralled by cowboys on horseback. The Kansas City Police Department reports 5 cows died as a result of the crash.

The driver was not injured, however his wife was taken to the hospital to be treated for non-life threatening injuries.
