Beef in freezers last month was slightly lower than a month earlier, but three percent higher than the same period in 2012 according to the Cold Storage report released Friday.

The higher beef supplies limited the decline in total red meat in freezers. Frozen pork saw a six percent drop compared to October 2012, which helped pull total red meat supplies down two percent from a year earlier. Both pork and total red meat supplies in freezers were down slightly from the previous month.

Frozen beef supplies totaled 443.6 million pounds on October 31. The figure is higher than October totals for each of the past three years.
