Crop producers, landowners and commercial agricultural business people can get the latest crop production updates from Purdue and Ohio State Extension specialists and educators during a one-day workshop in central Indiana.
Purdue Extension’s annual Crop Production Clinic will be Dec. 11 at the 4-H fairgrounds, 512 E. 4th Street, Alexandria.
John Orick, Purdue Extension educator in Madison County and event organizer, said the clinic will update producers across Indiana about the latest technology and information in the industry so they can make informed decisions about farming practices.
Clinic topics are:
- “What did the 2012 drought teach us about fungicide use?” by Pierce Paul, Ohio State University plant pathologist.
- “Mini bulk rules update” by Orick.
- “Fertilizer nutrients: From absolutely needed to unlikely beneficial” by Jim Camberato, Purdue Extension soil fertility specialist.
- “Ag outlook and the facts about crop insurance” by Chris Hurt, Purdue Extension agricultural economist.
- “Advancing toward higher corn grain yields” by Bob Nielsen, Purdue Extension corn specialist.
Orick said the program is private applicator-approved and that he will be requesting continuing certification and education credits for crop advisers and pesticide applicators.
“It’s an opportunity to gain necessary private and commercial credits for commercial applicators and certified crop advisers, and also provides an opportunity to interact with university and agricultural specialists,” he said.
There is no charge for the program unless an applicator or adviser wishes to obtain credit. They must pay the standard $10 fee and attend the entire program.
Farm Credit Services of Anderson and the Madison County Farm Bureau will sponsor a catered luncheon for all attendees. Registration in advance is preferred by Dec. 7.
Orick said the clinic has been well-attended in the past, with more than 100 agricultural producers each year, but is also open to the public.
