A sample of ground beef testing positive for E. coli O157:H7 has resulted in a voluntary recall of almost 23,000 pounds of beef from a plant in Liberal, Kan.
The recalled ground beef was produced by National Beef Packing Co., on May 25, 2013 with a use by/freeze by date of June 14, 2013. The 22,737 pounds of ground beef was produced in 10 pound chubs according to a notice on National Beef’s website.
A release by the USDA states the FSIS confirmed the positive test for E. coli. So far there have been no reports of illnesses associated with this case. Fox6 reports the FSIS classified the recall as a “Class I” with a reasonable probability that consumption of the product will cause serious, adverse health consequences.
Recalled produces include:
• 10 lb. packages of “National Beef” 80/20 Coarse Ground Chuck, package code “0481.”
• 10 lb. packages of “National Beef” 81/19 Coarse Ground Beef, package code “0421.”
• 10 lb. packages of “National Beef” 80/20 Fine Ground Chuck, package code “0484.”
