eXtension webinar focuses on feed efficiency

The eXtension Beef Cattle Clearinghouse Community of Practice will conduct a webinar, titled “Selection for Improved Feed Efficiency: A Genomics Approach,” on February 9, 2012 starting at noon Central time. The presentation, featuring Dr. Bob Weaber, Kansas State University and Dr. Matt Spangler, University of Nebraska, will last for one hour.

Weaber and Spangler, both specialists in beef-cattle genetics, will discuss the importance of feed efficiency in the US beef value chain, various measures of efficiency and genetic relationships between feed efficiency and other production traits. They’ll also describe genomic methods for genetic improvement of feed efficiency and provide an overview of a large research and Extension initiative focused on developing those genomic tools.
