Gardiner Angus Ranch, Ashland, Kan., has announced a unique donation that will be made to the National Junior Angus Association.

Saturday, April 6, 2013, Angus seedstock producers will have an opportunity to select a heifer from an entire flush during the Gardiner Angus Ranch sale. The heifer will be sired by GAR Progress, the #1 bull in the Angus breed for marbling and ranks in the top 1 percent of the breed for calving ease. The heifer’s dam is GAR 28 Ambush 1759, half-sister to GAR Prophet, an exceptional balance of calving ease, growth and end product merit.

Proceeds from the sale of this buyer’s opportunity will be donated to the National Junior Angus Association in support of the 2013 National Jr. Angus Show, “Aberdeen in Twenty-Thirteen”, July 5-11 in Kansas City.

The National Junior Angus Association began in 1956, with a purpose of encouraging and educating youth. Nearly 6,000 members strong, NJAA is more important today than in its more than half century of existence. Farm and ranch families comprise 2 percent of the entire population of America. That 2 percent of the population is challenged with the responsibility of producing safe, healthy and nutritious food for all of the U.S., as well as much of the world. Educating and retaining every young person interested in agriculture is critical to sustaining an abundant and affordable food supply.

Gardiner Angus Ranch is a family-owned and operated business that produces registered and commercial Angus cattle. The original ranch was homesteaded near Ashland, Kan., in 1885 by Henry Gardiner’s grandfather. The ranch encompasses nearly 50,000 acres. The Gardiner operation sells approximately 2,000 bulls and 1,500 registered and commercial females a year. Over 80 percent of the sale offering each year is the result of embryo transfer.

Gardiner Angus Ranch is a founding member of U.S. Premium Beef, the producer-owned limited liability corporation with minority ownership in National Beef, the nation’s fourth largest beef processing company. By providing access to a proven value-added processing system through GAR delivery rights, Gardiner Angus Ranch customers have received more than $4.1 million in premiums and dividends.
