The nation’s top livestock auctioneers are vying for their chance to compete at the World Livestock Auctioneer Championship later this year, and among the contestants is an unlikely – but impressive – auctioneer.

Adam Ashby is an 18-year-old high school senior from Nevada, Miss., and though he only has one working lung, he has been selling cattle for seven years.

"Been in and out of these sale barns all my life. My family runs a lot of cattle. As I got older I practiced and thought I'd like to be an auctioneer one of these days," Ashby told Kansas City, Mo.-based KCTV.

Ashby was one of 33 contestants who competed at one of three qualifiers for the championship.

Though Ashby failed to make it through the qualifying event, he continues to perfect his skills by turning to former auctioneering champs for advice and encouragement.
