Grassroots support for Beef Products Incorporated (BPI) and the Lean Finely Textured Beef is gaining momentum, due in part to the viral effect of social media. A rapidly growing Facebook group called People for Truth has more than 20,000 members, many of whom are working to positively influence supermarkets, consumers and others about the safety, nutrition and affordability of the product.
A sizable segment of the group’s membership is connected to communities where BPI facilities are located. BPI is one of the leading suppliers of Lean Finely Textured Beef. In late March, the company laid off more than 650 employees who worked at BPI plants in Kansas, Texas and Iowa.
