Kansas feedlots, with capacities of 1,000 or more head, contained 1.98 million cattle on feed on September 1, according to the USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service.

This inventory was down 9 percent from last year. This is the lowest September 1 inventory since 1998. Placements during August totaled 385,000 head, down 11 percent from 2012. This is the lowest August placements since the series began in 1994.

Fed cattle marketings for the month of August totaled 395,000 head, down 2 percent from last year. This is the lowest August marketings since 1994. Other disappearance during August totaled 10,000 head, unchanged from a year ago.
