A man who has been using fake checks to purchase cattle in Texas and Oklahoma is now in custody.
Rebecca Hazaleus and her husband, owners Durant Stockyards, recently sent their bank a check from a man who had purchased cattle from them, but learned that the check for about $8,000 was a fraud. Her bank, however, got her money back. An unnamed sell barn in Bryan County was also hit by the fake checks and lost $110,000. A rancher in Texas lost $30,000, KXII News reported.
The man, Raymond James Fleming, was arrested in Ohio on Friday by U.S. marshals. He faces charges of theft of livestock and obtaining property by false pretenses, according to the Texas and Southwestern Cattle Raisers Association.
