A manure spill from a 14,000-head-capacity beef cattle feedlot near Guthrie Center, Iowa, is currently under investigation by Iowa officials.
The Iowa Department of Natural Resources said the spill was reported on Oct. 2. The owner of the feedlot, Matt Van Meter, told the officials that he found a break in an irrigation pipe. Nearly eight hours later, he reported it, the Associated Press reported.
Meter said that the amount of manure spilled in uncertain, because he doesn't know when the pipe broke, but he estimates that it is about 200,000 gallons.
