ABERDEEN, S.D. (AP) - A spokesman said Northern Beef Packers has begun hiring workers and plans to open its packing plant near Aberdeen between mid-October and mid-November.

Steve Kaiser (KY'-zur) told the American News that the plant will employ 560 workers at full production.

He said it will begin by processing 200 head of cattle daily and gradually increase to 1,500 head daily.

Aberdeen's planning and zoning director said a building permit for the plant has been reinstated after it lapsed because there wasn't enough continuous work in the past two years. Planning for the plant began in 2005.
