Building upon the success of themed races like Warrior Dash and Tough Mudder, one Florida woman is putting an agricultural twist on obstacle course races by hosting hers on a working cattle ranch.

The Cattle Crawl, hosted by Yvette Bernosky at Triple J Ranch in Sarasota, Fla., is scheduled for March 2013. Like other obstacle courses, the Cattle Crawl will take runners through mud pits and cargo nets, but the course offers a new facet by challenging participants to climb hay bales and run with cattle.

The race adds more agricultural-themed challenges as participants will throw horseshoes and try their hand at using a lasso.

According to the Sarasota Herald Tribune the course will run six to eight miles on the 200 acre cattle ranch, but Bernosky claims the run is not only for the “uber-fit.”

“I just want to get across that it’s a fun adventure run challenge that is a unique family event,” she told the Tribune. “I think there is a whole group of people that would love to do something like this but the Tough Mudder is too hard for them.”

The Cattle Crawl is a new form of agritourism which is sure to draw a crowd separate from hayrides and pumpkin patches. Although participants are there for the run, they’ll be exposed to life on the farm while they’re there.
