WASHINGTON, D.C. –Senator Pat Roberts (R-Kan.), Ranking Member of the Senate Committee on Agriculture, Nutrition and Forestry, released the following audio statement today announcing a field hearing to be held in Wichita, Kansas on Thursday, August 25 to discuss reauthorization of the Farm Bill:

“In order to pass an appropriate and budget conscious farm safety net in the next farm bill, it is vitally important to continue field hearings and listen to farms and ranchers regarding what they want in the bill.

“As ranking member of the Senate Agriculture Committee, I’m pleased to announce the next farm bill hearing will be held right in the heart of farm country in Wichita on August 25. At this hearing, we will welcome the Chairwoman of the committee, Senator Stabenow from Michigan to gain insight and suggestions from our Kansas farm organizations, commodity groups and individual producers.

“This is a difficult budget year, Our farmers and ranchers know we must meet our budget challenges for the good of the country. We also know we must be fair to the folks who feed America and a troubled and hungry world. To do this and write a new farm bill that is fair and meets reasonable budget responsibilities we need the farmer’s perspective.

“Their perspective on the direction of the next farm bill is critical to the committee’s work in drafting policies that make sense in farm country and good policy for rural America. Nothing like sitting on the wagon tongue and visiting with farmers and ranchers. We’ll do just that in August in Wichita.”
