Stored grain management will be featured at Purdue Extension's 2011 Post Harvest Update and Recertification Workshop on Dec. 5.

The workshop, targeted to farmers, commercial grain storage handlers, pest management professionals and food processing quality-control managers, will be at the Beck Agricultural Center, 4540 U.S. 52 West, West Lafayette. Registration will begin at 8:30 a.m., and educational sessions will run from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Lunch will be provided.

Sessions will cover insect biology and identification, molds and mycotoxins, reviewing fundamentals of grain management, transport issues, keeping the trailer connected to the truck and fumigation and pesticide updates.

"Attendees will have a chance to learn more about effectively managing their postharvest systems to reduce pests, select appropriate control strategies, maintain quality and adopt integrated management systems," said Linda Mason, Purdue entomology professor.

Presenters are Mason; Charles Woloshuk, professor of botany and plant pathology; Klein Ileleji, associate professor of agricultural and biological engineering; Fred Whitford, coordinator of the Purdue Pesticide Program; and Mike Templeton of Surface Transport Consultation.

The workshop is part of the Continuing Certification Hour program for certified applicators and will be the last chance to earn CCHs in 2011. Those seeking points toward pesticide licenses can complete certification forms to verify attendance.

Advance registration, due by Dec. 1, is $95. On-site registration is $110, but registration is limited, and advance registration is recommended to ensure lunch for all participants. The registration form and more information are available at
