James E. Herring of Amarillo, Texas, has been chosen for live livestock industry’s Golden Spur Award. He will be presented the award during a dinner on Sept. 20, at the National Ranching Heritage Center’s main gallery, the Lubbock Avalanche-Journal reports.

Herring is the chairman and CEO of Friona Industries. He will join the 36 other people who have received the award in the past, due to his work creating benefits and opportunities for ranchers and beef producers across the country. The award recipient is chosen by the American Quarter Horse Association, the National Cattlemen’s Foundation, Ranching Heritage Association, Texas and Southwestern Cattle Raisers Association, Texas Cattle Feeders Association and Texas Farm Bureau.

“He is a visionary businessman with an uncanny ability to foresee and capitalize on opportunities in the beef industry, many of which have not been easy to achieve,” said Ross Wilson, president and CEO of the Texas Cattle Feeders Association.
