Both choice and select boxed beef figures moved lower Monday with select cuts falling further, allowing the choice/select spread to widen by 73 cents. Choice boxed beef closed 24 cents lower to settle at $188.98. Choice cuts have consistently fallen since July 1, losing $8.52 so far this month.
Feeder cattle improved for the third consecutive day Monday, gaining an additional 68 cents to close at $152.93. Feeders are now $3.51 above the 27-day average. Gains in the feeder market were assisted by a lower corn closing. Corn fell 3 cents to $5.41. Corn has remained fairly steady since its closed $1.71 lower on July 12.
Live cattle also moved lower Monday, down a dime to $121.88. Live cattle fell for the second consecutive day, but remain 44 cents above the 27-day average.
