An executive with Tyson Foods Inc. calls recent public interest in “pink slime” a “two-week event” that has hurt beef sales, but expects demand to recover quickly.
Tyson Chief Operating Officer Jim Lochner spoke about the ground beef controversy at an investor presentation on March 27. Lochner said recent news has hindered ground beef consumption but turned his focus to a long-term outlook. As the industry stops selling the ground-beef filler beef supplies will tighten and prices will move even higher.
"We'll probably see a two percent to three percent reduction in the available beef supply," Lochner said.
Fox News reports the product’s nickname, “pink slime,” has fueled opposition to the product.
