U.S. beef export sales up 79%

Beef export sales to Japan and South Korea were key to the 79 percent increase in sales over the previous week. U.S. beef net sales totaled 23,486 metric tons, up for the second consecutive week. Export sales increases were led by Japan with 7,000 metric tons, followed by South Korea (4,200 MT) and Mexico (3,100 MT). Russia and Canada were 4th and 5th with 3,000 MT and 2,300 MT respectively.

Beef export shipments from the U.S. were primarily to South Korea, who received 3,600 metric tons last week. Mexico was second, receiving 2,800 MT, followed by Japan (2,300 MT), Canada (1,700 MT) and Hong Kong (1,600 MT). Shipments were relatively steady with only a 5 percent increase. U.S. beef export shipments totaled 16,776 metric tons, up 765 MT from the previous week.
