Ohio State University South Centers will host the 2012 Conservation Tillage and Cover Crops event on Oct. 23 in Piketon.

The event will run 3-6 p.m. at 1864 Shyville Road and will include conservation presentations and demonstrations to help farmers manage crop residue, analyze tillage performance and select the right type of tillage, and learn more about winter cover crops.

The agenda includes:

  • Soil Health Demostration, Abbe Copple, district conservationist, Pike Natural Resources Conservation Service.
  • Residue Management and Soil Tillage Demonstrations, Randall Reeder, retired OSU Extension agricultural engineer.
  • Cover Crops and Plot Tours, David Brandt, no-till farmer and cover crop user, and Jim Hoorman, OSU Extension educator.

The workshop also will include a USDA Program Overview about the importance of keeping records up to date.

Equipment dealers have been invited to bring the latest deep and residue management tillage equipment so attendees can see what the tools do and ask questions.

Copple, Reeder, Hoorman, Brandt, and Wayne Lewis, OSU South Centers farm manager will be on-hand to answer attendee questions.

CEU’s have been approved for CCA Credits for Nutrient Management (1.5) and Soil & Water Management (1.5).
