A steer owned and fed by Triangle H of Garden City captured the Brookover Memorial Award presented June 2 at Beef Empire Days in Garden City. The black steer placed fifth live and third in the steer carcass contest to post the best combined finish of the 97 head entered in the show. This is the third consecutive year for a Triangle H entry to win the prestigious award.
Foote Cattle Company owned the grand champion heifer, which placed second live and fifth in the heifer carcass contest. The black female was fed at Lane County Feeders of Dighton.
Brookover Feedyard of Garden City fed the animal producing the Cargill Meat Solutions grand champion carcass. T&M/M Bippes owned the smoky-colored heifer, which graded middle Choice and was a Yield Grade 1.45.
Complete results from the Beef Empire Days fed cattle show will appear in the upcoming Cattle Feeders Issue of the Kansas Stockman, due in mailboxes July 1.
