Two northeast Kansas men have been sentenced to prison for defrauding the owners of a cattle ranch in Jefferson County.

Dennis Stebbins of Overbrook was sentenced Friday in federal court in Topeka to 21 months in prison, followed by three years supervised probation. And Jay Wagner of Oskaloosa was placed on three years of supervised probation.

They had pleaded guilty to defrauding Mick, Virginia, Mike and Judy Jamison, owners of J Bar Ranch. The Jamisons had asked the men to have the cattle examined by a veterinarian. The men were reimbursed for the cost plus $2 to $3 a head.

Stebbins and Wagner admitted last year that they increased the average weight and cost of the cattle. They also created fake documents to show a vet did examine the cattle.
