The Academy of Veterinary Consultants (AVC) last week honored Mike Apley, DVM, PhD, DACVCP, with its annual Distinguished Service Award, citing his dedicated service to the organization and the beef industry overall. AVC presented the award, sponsored by Merck Animal Health, during the spring conference in Norman, Oklahoma.

Apley currently is a professor in the Department of Veterinary Clinical Sciences at Kansas State University. Prior to his academic career, he spent two years of general practice in Kansas and four years as a feedyard consultant. He served on the faculty at Iowa State University for nine years prior to joining the K-State Faculty in 2005. Apley is a past president of AVC and has served on the academy’s board of directions. In addition to teaching and research at K-State, he works with veterinarians and producers around the country and is widely recognized for his expertise in judicious use of antimicrobials in beef production.
