HAYWARD, Minn. (AP) — Cows were roaming onto a southern Minnesota freeway after a cattle truck overturned near Hayward.

The crash happened before sunrise Thursday on Interstate 90. The Minnesota State Patrol says 16 cattle in the top compartment were ejected, with one cow dying at the scene.

One driver was injured when her car hit an escaped cow. The Albert Lea Tribune reports the woman was taken away by ambulance, but the patrol says her injuries were minor.

The truck driver was not hurt. The cow had to be put down.

Authorities rounded up eight of the roaming cows, but six others were acting wild and had to be euthanized.

Fog was causing limited visibility and roads were wet at the time.
